Teddy Roosevelt, George Washington, Abe Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson: four of our countries' most influential Presidents and statesmen have their countenances carved in stone in South Dakota.
Where are today's unassailable statesmen? If we had to choose four men and women to hold up as examples of what it means to be selfless, patriotic Americans, who would they be? Perhaps in another day they'd have been astronauts, or generals, or others.
Maybe today's heroes are American inventors? We should celebrate those who achieve greatness while maintaining friendships and the respect of both the people and of their own enemies.
